下の情報を書いた直後、Geddy のコメントが発表されました。

Greetings to all,

I thought it was about time that I lifted my head out of the confines of
studio life and checked in with this web site and communicated recent
goings on to all of you.

To begin with, let me thank all those fans that organized, and in any way
participated in the recent Rushcon 2001, that was held in Toronto. Quite
a show of dedication and loyalty and one that did not go unnoticed or
unappreciated by us. Although I was disappointed that I came in second
last in the Geddy Lee look-a-like contest, I'm sure I'll get over it! What with
the Raptors losing to the Sixers, I'm getting used to disappointments.

Secondly, I appreciate the continuing interest in My Favourite Headache.
The c.d. and the website. The good karma that has come from it keeps
my spirits lifted and has shown me what a worthwhile endeavour it was
indeed. The benefits of which have carried me into the latest Rush
project with renewed vigour, confidence and sharpened studio chops!!

Speaking of which...I'm sure you'd like to know how things are coming
along. Well, although things began rather slowly, as you can well imagine
after 6 years between writing sessions, and considering all that we and
Neil in particular have been through personally, I'm happy to report that
we are now deeply ensconced in the creative mode and a collection of
songs is starting to take shape. More importantly there is an optimistic
atmosphere and we are once again communicating fresh ideas together
as a band. Experimenting as always, but not afraid to get a little physical!!

And so we will continue on with this process until such time that we all
feel confident that the material we have written is "great" enough to be
released as the next Rush album. When that will be? I can't say exactly,
but with luck on our side we hope to release something early in 2002.

Soooo, I guess that's all that's new from me at the moment. Once again
thanks to all of you for your enduring support, the effect of which has
undoubtedly contributed to our ability to continue down this road for so long.

P.S. Yes... I do read the messages that you post. Hopefully, I will get to

ということで、新作が聴けるのは 2002年初頭 のようです。首を長くして待ちましょう！

レコーディング中途の情報が入りました。以下は THML に流れた THML-mgr の投稿です。この情報は RUSH のマネージメントからの公式発表と考えても差し支えません。

Now, present news ! they are thinking about to produce the album
themselves, they want to listen to the final work first and then they'll
decide if the new work will be done by Paul Northfield or by themselves.
They say it's not a matter of saving money, but it's just that they feel
that they know how exactly they want the new album sounds like, and they
have learn during more than 20 years how to do it... maybe the album would
be produced by Rush and engineered by Northfield.

It's true that initially they were thinking about some top producers...
like Bob Rock, but he told the lads that he had two problems... first, a
Rush album takes about six months to do it... and in that time he could
make 2 any other top artist's (and top money) record...
And second, he told them that he loves Rush, and he consider himself as a
Rush fan, and it would very difficult to him, to start giving "musical
orders" or advices to musicians like them that know so well what exactly
they want...

Neil has been writing and writing, and he already has lyrics for more than
just one album... he has a loooong... material that isn't separated into
songs... he said "Alex and Geddy" will have to arrange all this material
and get it mixed with the songs they wrote..."

More confirmed news: the Different Stages DVD project is definitely down...
the audio tracks are screwed up... but they really wanted to do it !
But.......... don't be so sad, maybe, I said "maybe" we'll had our reward
with a "Making of the new album" DVD... some guy is working on collecting
the material for that...

まず、New Album のプロデューサーについて。なんと、これまでの発言からは全く予想できなかったことなのですが、今回は セルフ・プロデュースになる可能性が高そうです！もしくは、Paul Northfield (現エンジニア) との共同クレジットになるかもしれないとのことですが、"Different Ear" を持つ人間によるプロデュースを信条としてきた RUSH としては、大きな方向転換です。上の情報にありますが、決して「プロでユーサーに支払う代金をケチるわけではなく」、どんな音にしたいのかというヴィジョンがはっきりしていて、しかも20余年の活動で得た経験からセルフ・プロデュースができるという自信もあるから、とのことです。これは、お金がないからセルフ・プロデュースするしかないのとは大きな違いですね。
　ただし、一時噂になった Bob Rock にプロデュースを頼むのでは？という情報は事実だったのですが、これは（上記の通り）２つの理由で実現しなかったとのことです。
　現在、Neil は既にアルバム１枚分以上の歌詞を書き上げています。その中にはとても長く、単純に分割して曲にできるようなものではない詞もあり、Geddy と Alex はそれをアレンジし、作ってある曲の中にはめ込む作業を行うようです。ちなみに非公式の情報ですが、現在７曲のデモ・バージョンが仕上がっているとのことです。「非常に Hard & Heavy だ」とは、デモ・テープを聴いたと称する人物の証言です。
　メンバーは現在ミニ・オフを取っているようですが、このまま順調にいけば、今年の秋〜冬には新作を聴くことができそうです。

それともう一つ。これは大変残念な情報なんですが‥‥。"Different Stages" の DVD project は、ここへ来て完全にポシャってしまいました。"the audio tracks are screwed up" とのことで、ヴィデオ・シューティングされた Toronto のショウの出来がよくなかったのでしょうか。いずれインタビュー等で語られると思いますが、詳しい理由はわかりません。
　ただ、「新作のメイキング DVD」が制作されるかもしれないとのこと。あくまで可能性がある、程度ですが、実際に録画はされているようです。あまり期待せずに待ちましょう (^_^;)。

それから、もうご存じの方は頻繁に覗かれていると思いますが、MFH の公式サイトから発展した http://www.geddylee.net/ では、時として Geddy 本人が掲示板に登場しています。要チェック！

あと、下で紹介した「RUSH: MERELY PLAYERS」は、発売がずれ込んでいて、まだ出版されていません。現時点では６月１日発売となっていますが‥‥。

すっかり間が開いてしまいました。ごめんなさい。その間に、様々な動きがありました。

まず、最大のニュース、RUSH がレコーディングを開始しました。ニュース・ソースとしてはCANOE.COM news 01/12/01が最も早かったもので、その後他のサイト等でも３人が集まり、プリプロを始めたことを伝えています。現時点ではまだプリプロ中ということしかわかっていません。完成は、早くても今年の秋〜暮れになるでしょう。また、CANOE には同じ日に２つの Geddy 関連の記事が載りました。CANOE RUSH HOMEPAGE も要チェックです。

日本の雑誌で三つ目の Geddy のインタビューが載りました。Player 2001年３月号です。もう載らないかと思っていましたが、遅かったわけです。これは Guitar World 2001年１月号に載ったインタビューの邦訳です。ただ、この Guitar World、買い損ねてしまったので、元記事がどのくらいあったかははっきりしません。しかし、Player に載ったのは、ほぼ間違いなく抜粋版です。それと、この邦訳版で使われている「Rush 再結成」という言葉について。これは、原文が「reunion」だったためにこう訳されてしまったのだと思いますが、「reunion」は必ずしも「再結成」ではありません。単なる「再開/再会」の意味で使われる方が多いです。「解散」していないバンドが、なぜ「再結成」するんでしょう？質の低い訳には困ったものです。

こちらは先月末に日本に入ってきた Bass Player 誌の 2001年２月号です。「100％ GEDDY!」で、充実したインタビューです。タワレコ等の輸入雑誌を扱う店で探してみて下さい。面白いと思います。

それから、既に掲示板で紹介済ですが、10数年ぶりとなる Rush の新しいバイオ本の出版が決まりました。タイトルは「RUSH: MERELY PLAYERS」。写真を多数掲載したバイオ、ソロ、サイド・ワークまで網羅したディスコグラフィー、ヴィデオグラフィー、各媒体でのインタビュー・リスト等々、バイオ本＋資料集という感じのようです。発行は、今年４月の予定。価格は $16 程度。多分、ソフト・カヴァーで、「VISIONS」と同様の体裁と思われます。出版社も「VISIONS」と同じ OMNI PRESS です。詳しい広告はhttp://www.members.tripod.com/broonsbane/ にあります。
　既に、amazon.com 等でプレ・オーダーが始まっています。amazon.com では$13.50 位です。
